Mark Kieffer Memorial Scholarship


This scholarship is provided by the Kieffer family as a memorial for Mark Kieffer. Mark was a rancher and a life long conservationist. His love for the land and wildlife went hand in hand, believing that good conservation practices on farms and ranches make excellent wildlife habitats.


Mark’s accomplishments and awards include but are not limited to: Range man of the Year in 2020, Producer of the year in 2002, Conservation Service in 2006, the Ducks Unlimited Wildlife Habitat in 2015 and the Issac Walton Excellence in Range Management in 2016.


Mark served on the Pennington Conservation District Board of Supervisors from 2001-2020, the Water Conservation District Board from 2000- 2020 and on the Weed and Pest Board from 2003-2014.


This scholarship, in the amount of $1000, is for high school seniors located in Western South Dakota that are going to attend a South Dakota college while pursuing a conservation degree. Applications will need to be post marked by March 1st in order to qualify.

The Kieffer family and Pennington Conservation District Board will pick the top 3 applicants and contact them for an interview to decide the winner of the scholarship.
